Wife of Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena Remanded Until 6 October

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered that Chinari Lakmandi Hettiarachchi, the wife of former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena, who was arrested on suspicion by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on 25 September 2026 over an allegation of offering a bribe, be remanded until 6 October.

The wife of former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena, who was arrested by CIABOC officers, was produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama.

CIABOC officers informed court yesterday that she had been arrested on allegations of offering a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to a court office employee, seeking to have a suspended sentence imposed by a judge in a pending case against former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena before the Colombo High Court No. 11.

After considering the submissions made by the investigating officers and the lawyers appearing on behalf of the suspect, Colombo Magistrate Asanka S. Bodaragama ordered that the suspect be remanded until 6 October.
