Railway Minister approves new Tambaram-Rameswaram train

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw approved a new train service from Tambaram to Rameswaram via Chidambaram, Thiruvarur and Thiruthuraipoondi in Tamil Nadu, which will be inaugurated on Apr 6, 2025, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai announced recently.
Annamalai stated that the approval followed public feedback and a representation submitted by the Tamil Nadu BJP.
“Based on the feedback given by the people and a representation in this regard made by @BJP4TamilNadu, our Hon Railways Minister approved a new train from Tambaram to Rameswaram via Chidambaram, Thiruvarur, and Thiruthirapoondi,” he said in a post on X.
The new train will offer a direct, convenient option from Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu, reducing road congestion.
It will also improve connectivity for towns like Thiruvarur and Thiruthuraipoondi, aiding students, workers, and businesses.
Additionally, enhanced rail access will boost tourism and trade, supporting the government’s efforts to modernise Tamil Nadu’s railway network and ensure better connectivity for remote regions.
