Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday announced a set of new features for individuals and businesses on WhatsApp. These updates were unveiled during WhatsApp's Conversations event in Mumbai, with the goal of streamlining interactions with businesses through WhatsApp chats.

The newly announced features for WhatsApp include three features, namely, Flows, Payments and Meta Verified, for business profiles on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Flows for faster chat experience

WhatsApp Flows will enable businesses to offer a wide range of services to customers within WhatsApp chat windows. For example, if a business provides booking services, they will be able to allow their customers to choose their train seats, order meals, or book tickets seamlessly without leaving the chat. “With Flows, businesses will be able to provide rich menus and customizable forms that support different needs,”notes WhatsApp.

WhatsApp will make this feature available for businesses globally through the WhatsApp Business Platform in the near future.

Payments with UPI or cards

WhatsApp is also simplifying the process of making purchases directly within chat conversations. Now WhatsApp users in India have the option to add items from a WhatsApp business to their shopping cart and proceed with payment using various methods, including supported UPI apps, debit and credit cards, and more.

Verification badge

WhatsApp is also bringing Meta verified features for WhatsApp businesses to help them get the tag of authenticity. Once verified, the businesses will receive a badge– like a blue tick that will confirm their legitimacy, enhanced support for their accounts, and protection against impersonation.

This feature will also include premium options, including the ability to create a custom WhatsApp page that is easily discoverable through web searches and multi-device support for multiple employees to manage customer interactions.
