International Bodies Urged to Act as Middle East Tensions Escalate

Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said international organizations established to prevent war carry a major responsibility at this time and must use their full authority to stop the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held on March 4 at the Government Information Department in Colombo, he stressed that the Sri Lankan government calls on these institutions to take decisive action to halt the fighting.
The government expressed deep regret over all lives lost in the conflict, including heads of state, diplomats, civilians and schoolchildren, regardless of which side they were on.
The minister said Sri Lanka hopes the conflict will end quickly and urged all parties involved to seek solutions through dialogue. He warned that in today’s technologically advanced world, war is no longer confined to a specific geographical area and can spread unpredictably.
Sri Lanka, he said, will intervene or make representations in any way possible to help reduce tensions. Given the large number of Sri Lankans working in the Middle East and the threat posed to global economic stability and world peace, Sri Lanka expects the conflict to end as soon as possible.
