Australia defeated India in a one-sided final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday to win the ODI World Cup for the sixth time.

India, who were looking for their third world title in one-day internationals, were far from their best in a tournament which they had dominated by topping the group stage with 9 wins from 9 matches and then defeating New Zealand in a high-scoring semifinal at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

Australia had won their first World Cup in 1987 and then followed it up with three successive titles in 1999, 2003 and 2007. After losing the quarterfinal in 2011 to eventual champions India, Australia bounced back to win the World Cup at home in 2015.
