Want Supreme Court bench in Chennai: CM Vijay writes to PM on long-pending demand

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to establish a Supreme Court bench in Chennai to improve access to justice for southern states. 

He highlights the challenges of distance and cost in traveling to Delhi, citing constitutional provisions and historical legal expertise in Chennai. 

Despite a 2007 Supreme Court refusal, Vijay references multiple committee recommendations and court cases supporting the move, emphasizing that it would reflect India's federal character without impacting judicial independence.
