India urged Sri Lanka before the Council to fully implement its Constitution, conduct provincial council elections without delay, and pursue meaningful devolution of power. It stressed that inclusive power-sharing and a fair reconciliation process are essential for lasting peace.

Speaking during the debate on the High Commissioner’s report, the Indian representative recalled India’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s post-war rebuilding and resettlement since 2009, and also referred to India’s assistance during Sri Lanka’s severe 2022 economic crisis.

The representative highlighted President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s 2024 visit to India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s April 2025 visit to Sri Lanka as testimony to strong bilateral relations.

India reiterated its consistent position: while upholding Sri Lanka’s unity and sovereignty, it has always stressed the aspirations of the Tamil people for equality, justice, and dignity. India therefore urged full constitutional implementation, immediate provincial elections, and meaningful devolution.
