Former B.C. RCMP assistant commissioner David Teboul pleaded guilty to one count of assault in an Abbotsford court on October 28.

Teboul, 52, was charged in September with two counts of assault, and another count of assault causing bodily harm by choking, after an alleged off-duty incident at Abbotsford Recreation Centre in July 2025. The remaining charges are expected to be stayed at the end of sentencing hearings.

Teboul read an apology to the teen in court.

His lawyer Brock Martland painted a picture of a man with an exemplary record of public service who acted out of concern for his son and acknowledged that he took the wrong action.

"The case has an almost Shakespearean dimension to it, in the sense that you have an officer at the pinnacle of his career in the national police force, who suffered an enormous fall from grace," said Martland.

Teboul is seeking a conditional discharge, with six months of probation and 50 hours of community service. The Crown is seeking a suspended sentence, with 18 months of probation.

He is expected to appear in court again in mid-November.
