Special Parliamentary Committee to Present Recommendations; Elections Commission Chief

The Elections Commission has welcomed the appointment of a special parliamentary committee to examine the system under which provincial council elections can be held.

R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, Commission Chief, stated that the committee, chaired by Foreign Minister Wijith Herath and consisting of 12 members, will submit recommendations within three months. 

The government will fully cooperate to ensure elections are held promptly, addressing unresolved electoral and technical issues from the 2017 mixed electoral system.
