School Allowance Programme for Children to Continue This Year

The government has decided to continue the school allowance programme for children to purchase educational supplies this year.

Under the scheme, students from Aswesuma beneficiary families will receive LKR 6,000 per child through the Welfare Benefits Board. 

Additional provisions have been made for eligible students not covered under Aswesuma, students in small schools with fewer than 300 pupils, Pirivena students, novice monks and nuns, and children in child development centres.

Cabinet approval has been granted for the continuation of the programme, based on a proposal submitted by the Prime Minister in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.
