Rainy Weather Continues – One Death, 509 Affected

The Meteorological Department has reported that certain areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western, and Southern Provinces may experience rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters on October 20.

Due to the ongoing rainy weather, 509 people from the Anuradhapura and Puttalam Districts have been affected. One person from Thambuttegama in Anuradhapura District has died after being swept away by floodwaters.

The Disaster Management Centre has urged the public to remain alert to the warnings issued regarding heavy rain and the risk of landslides.

With the continued rainfall, six spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir, two spill gates of the Ambakamuwa Reservoir, two spill gates of the Kala Oya Reservoir, two spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir, and four spill gates of the Ibbankatuwa Reservoir have been opened.

The public has been advised to remain cautious and follow all safety instructions issued.
