Protest Against Mannar Wind Turbines and Sand Excavation in Colombo

A big protest was held in Colombo o September 19 against wind turbine construction and sand excavation in Mannar.

Arutthandai Markus Adikalar, leader of the Mannar Citizens’ Group, stated that the protest has been ongoing for 47 days in Mannar. Hundreds of participants from Mannar will attend the demonstration at the Presidential Secretariat.

He demanded the immediate cessation of 14 planned new wind turbine projects, no approval for sand excavation in Mannar, and highlighted that the 36 existing turbines in Mannar have already caused numerous problems and inconveniences for residents.

Leaders from the southern Sinhala community and religious heads have also joined the protest and are welcomed, emphasizing that all communities should support the demonstration.
