President Anura Kumara Dissanayake Extends Haj Greetings

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on the public to join the government’s journey towards building a compassionate human society founded on peace, unity and the common good rather than selfish interests, following the exemplary values reflected through Haj.
Issuing his Haj festival message, the President stated that Muslims around the world celebrate Haj with deep devotion, commemorating the faith and unparalleled sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim in submission to Allah.
He noted that Haj holds unique significance as it is linked to the sacred pilgrimage, which is regarded as the fifth pillar of Islam.
The President observed that in a world facing crisis upon crisis, Haj offers a powerful example of the importance of human solidarity and interconnectedness.
He stated that Muslims from all parts of the world gathering together for religious observances regardless of personal status presents a meaningful model of equality and brotherhood to humanity.
Referring to the current conflict situation in the Middle East, the President said that Muslims undertaking the pilgrimage to Mecca continue to demonstrate the limitless sacrifice and devotion exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim despite global challenges.
He further stated that the government’s objective is to build a peaceful, united and empathetic society where the common good prevails over selfish interests.
The President urged all people to bring the values of peace, brotherhood and sacrifice reflected in Haj closer into their daily lives.
He also called upon the public to move forward in unity to build a spiritually enriched and developed Sri Lanka that benefits all citizens, and extended Eid-ul-Adha greetings to Muslims in Sri Lanka and around the world.
