Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that the country has reached a moment where all communities must unite with a shared purpose and collective responsibility to restore normalcy and secure the nation’s future.

In her Christmas message, she further stated:

With the arrival of December, Christians prepare to celebrate Christmas. The birth of the infant Jesus, bearer of the message of peace, spread from Bethlehem to the world, and celebrating this day with joy is the hope of the Christian community.

However, this cold December dawned without its usual joy or festivity. We reached this Christmas amid the grief and sighs of thousands of our brothers and sisters affected by a natural disaster that shook the entire country.

Yet, understanding the true meaning of Christmas and following the guidance of Jesus, the people of our country have set an example to the world by setting aside all differences, uniting in solidarity, and showing love, compassion, and the noble principle taught by Jesus of “loving one’s neighbour” toward their fellow citizens affected by the disaster.

We continue to work tirelessly toward the single goal of building the “Prosperous Country – Beautiful Life” that millions of people who hoped for real change expect, ensuring their hopes are not wasted.

On this Christmas Day, let us all pledge to act together as citizens with unity, love, compassion, and responsibility for the dream of a better future for us all. Merry Christmas to all Christians in Sri Lanka and around the world.
