Membership Revoked for the Arrested Individual; Says Sajith

Opposition Leader and SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa stated on his official X platform that the party has taken disciplinary action against a local government candidate arrested in connection with a large haul of narcotics seized from a fishing vessel in the southern seas.

He announced that the individual’s SJB membership had been suspended with immediate effect and that a separate inquiry would be launched. He added:

“As a party, the SJB strongly opposes drug trafficking. It is a cancer to our society. We firmly believe that laws must be strengthened to impose the maximum punishment on those engaged in this illegal and abhorrent trade.”

He issued this statement following confirmation by the Police Narcotics Bureau that the candidate from the Pannala area had been arrested.
