Landslide red alert reissued for Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts

The National Building Research Organisation has reissued landslide red alerts for parts of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts due to renewed heavy rainfall.

Director Vasanta Senadeera said over 200 mm of rain was recorded in Ududumbara, prompting renewed alerts. Several Divisional Secretariat areas in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya are affected, with visible signs such as cracks in houses and land.

Second-level warnings were also issued for Badulla, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, and Matale districts, covering 32 divisions, while third-level warnings covered 18 divisions in three districts.

The Meteorology Department forecast continued rainfall in the North and East, strong winds in several provinces, and misty conditions in parts of the country.
