ITAK Thanks President for Granting Bail to Rap Artist Sangeethshan
14-Jun-2026.
The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) has expressed its gratitude to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake following the release on bail of Tamil rap artist Sangeethshan, who had been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
The appreciation was conveyed by ITAK’s Ampara District MP Kavindran Kodeeswaran while participating in a parliamentary debate on regulations under the Central Bank Act and supplementary assessments on June 12.
Addressing Parliament, the MP stated that Sangeethshan, a rap artist from Kilinochchi, had recently been arrested under the PTA. He noted that senior lawyer Kesavan Sayanthan had been involved in legal efforts to secure his release and that MP S. Sritharan had raised the matter directly with the President. Numerous individuals and organisations had also campaigned for his release.
The MP informed Parliament that Sangeethshan had been granted bail on Friday and, on behalf of ITAK, extended thanks to President Dissanayake for facilitating the outcome.
