Government Committed to Building a Prosperous Nation – President

The government is committed to building a prosperous nation, and it is the government’s responsibility to provide the fishing community with the necessary facilities, stated President Anurakumara Dissanayake.
He further mentioned that by developing a fishing harbor in the north, steps will be taken to provide the fishing community with essential facilities and address their issues.
The President made these remarks on the morning of 01-09-2025, while participating in the ceremony to inaugurate the third phase of the Mayiliddy Fishing Harbor Development Project in Jaffna.
He emphasized that while past governments worked in anticipation of war, the present government is striving to build peace and harmony so that no war will ever arise again in the country. Lands in the north that were seized for the use of the security forces during the war will be released to the people.
He assured that the seas, islands, and lands surrounding the country will be protected for the people and that the government will not yield to any external pressure in this regard.
The President symbolically launched the third phase of the Mayiliddy Harbor Development Project. Under this, facilities such as water, electricity, fuel, cold storage, net-making workshops, auction halls, and communication centers will not only be provided for the northern fishing community but also for fishing boats arriving from the Eastern and Southern provinces. The government has allocated 298 million rupees for this purpose this year.
The event was attended by Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Marine Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Wattagala, Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation Susil Ranasinghe, Members of Parliament, Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayagam, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, provincial officials, heads of the security forces, and many others.
