Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said the government will pass on the benefits of any favourable developments in global oil prices to the public at the earliest opportunity.

He made the remarks during the weekly Cabinet media briefing in Colombo.

According to the Minister, uncertainty remains in global markets despite progress in discussions between the United States and Iran. Therefore, it is not yet possible to specify when fuel prices may be reduced.

He said all fuel shipments scheduled for this month have already arrived, except for one crude oil shipment.

The government is currently maintaining fuel prices through substantial subsidies. Approximately Rs.100 billion had been allocated for the initial fuel subsidy programme, which is due to conclude this month.

The Minister said authorities will continue monitoring global developments before making any decision on price revisions.
