Marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka Navy history, the vessel P 628, formerly known as “Decisive” of the United States Coast Guard, departed from Baltimore on February 20 bound for Sri Lanka.

The ship will travel approximately 14,775 nautical miles, making it the longest single voyage undertaken by a Sri Lanka Navy vessel. It will also be the first Sri Lankan naval ship to transit the Panama Canal.

Commanded by Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya, the vessel carries a crew of 86 personnel, including 14 officers. After a 77-day voyage with port calls at strategically significant locations, it is scheduled to arrive in Trincomalee on May 8.

The United States Embassy stated that the donation of this fourth vessel underscores strong bilateral relations and shared commitments to maritime security.

The ship is expected to enhance Sri Lanka’s surveillance capabilities within its Exclusive Economic Zone and contribute to regional stability.
