Fair Probe Underway into Muthaiyankattu Army Camp Incident: Public Security Minister

A fair investigation is being carried out regarding the incident that took place at the Muthaiyankattu army camp in Mullaitivu.
If anyone has done wrong, whoever they are, it is our responsibility to bring them before justice, said Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijeyapala.
The Batticaloa District Development Committee meeting was held on 13-08-2025 at the Old Kachcheri Hall under the chairmanship of Development Committee Chairman Minister Sunil Handunnetti.
Speaking to the media after attending the meeting, the Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijeyapala made these remarks.
He further stated:
The incident in which a youth died at the Muthaiyankattu army camp in Mullaitivu is known to journalists and the public. They had entered without permission.
In connection with the incident, three soldiers have been arrested and investigations are underway.
It has been revealed that iron had been stolen there, and the army is conducting investigations into it.
It is said that three soldiers were involved in this iron theft.
Accordingly, the three soldiers have been arrested, produced in court, and remanded, with investigations continuing.
At the same time, a fair investigation is being conducted.
We are telling the public this — if anyone has done wrong, whoever they are, it is our responsibility to bring them before justice.
At the same time, the President has advised that there is no need to remove army camps or police stations unnecessarily.
Therefore, as the Minister of Public Security, except in secure or important locations, we have been releasing additional lands from the beginning of the land-release process.
