EU, India to seal security and defence pact at Delhi summit
24-Jan-2026.
The European Union has agreed with India to move ahead with the signing of a new security and defence partnership, as Brussels prepares to deepen ties with New Delhi ahead of a summit next week.
New Delhi and Brussels are also expected to announce the conclusion of a free trade agreement.
Speaking in the European Parliament on Jan 21, EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas said the partnership would form part of a broader strategic agenda that is ready for signature at the upcoming EU–India summit in New Delhi.
"In a few days, the European Union and India will meet in New Delhi," Kallas said. "This is a pivotal moment for our bilateral relationship, with renewed political momentum and a clear sense of purpose."
