The proceedings relating to the sentence imposed on Shashi Weerawansa, whose full name is Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage Shirja Udayanthi, have been postponed until October 26.

She was found guilty of possessing an improperly obtained diplomatic passport and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and fined Rs. 100,000.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama when the case was taken up on Monday, October 12, 2026.

After considering a request made by counsel appearing for Weerawansa, the Magistrate directed her lawyers to submit to court, by October 26, the records relating to the appeal filed before the High Court.

Counsel had sought an adjournment because the appeal was scheduled to be taken up before the High Court on the previous day.

On May 27, 2022, Weerawansa was found guilty of possessing an improperly obtained diplomatic passport and sentenced to two years' imprisonment, in addition to a fine of Rs. 100,000. The court had also ordered that she serve an additional six months in prison if she failed to pay the fine.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction and sentence on June 11, 2026.
