Corrupt elements are in a state of agitation as the Secretary-General of the Commission on Bribery or Corruption, Sunil Wattakale, is taking strict legal measures under the law.

These individuals are filing accusations against him in response. The public and parliamentary offices have been assured that those who defraud public funds will be held accountable before the law, stated Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Sunil Wattakale.

Speaking to the media after attending an event in Colombo on October 12, he further noted that as the corrupt practices of past wrongdoers, including members of the Rajapaksa family, are exposed, many corrupt individuals are now frightened and unsettled.

When the Commission on Bribery or Corruption takes stringent action against those who defraud public funds, accusations are being directed against its Secretary-General.

Strict legal action will be taken against those who misuse public funds. When new developments emerge regarding the murder of rugby player Tajudeen, Namal Rajapaksa, fearing exposure, is filing accusations against the police department.

Opposition members created misinformation among the public regarding the granting of powers to the Police Chief. Regarding this matter, opposition member Sujith Senasinghe submitted a petition to Parliament.

The Prime Minister responded to the accusations raised in this petition through constitutional channels. All the accusations made by Sujith Senasinghe are false. There is no necessity for the government to politicize the independent police commission.

Certain powers are being granted to the Police Chief strictly according to the authority provided by the Commission, and the independence of the Police Commission will not be affected.
