Colombo Plan marks 75th anniversary

The 75th anniversary of the Colombo Plan was celebrated at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya.

Addressing the event, the Prime Minister said the Colombo Plan had played a vital role in Sri Lanka's development through early investments in energy, agriculture, irrigation and transport. She also commended its contribution to drug prevention, youth development and public health.

She stressed the need for regional organisations to adapt to emerging challenges such as technological change, climate issues and geopolitical shifts, while strengthening cooperation in education and human resource development. A commemorative stamp and the publication Colombo Plan: 75 Years, 75 Stories were also launched.
