Central Bank Monitors Alleged Fraud at National Development Bank

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has stated that it is closely monitoring ongoing investigations into alleged internal fraud at the National Development Bank and assured that customer deposits and accounts remain secure.

The Central Bank had previously reported that a major internal fraud worth approximately Rs. 13.2 billion had taken place, significantly higher than earlier estimates.

It reiterated that the bank continues to operate with adequate capital and liquidity above regulatory requirements.

The Central Bank further stated that the fraud has had no impact on customer deposits and that those funds remain safe.

It also confirmed that close coordination is being maintained with the bank’s management and other stakeholders, and that necessary measures will be taken to safeguard financial stability and depositor interests.
