BJP eyes key Thiruvananthapuram seats ahead of kerala assembly polls
19-Jan-2026.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is pinning its hopes on Nemom, a constituency where it scripted history in 2016 when party veteran O Rajagopal won the seat. The CPIM, however, reclaimed Nemom in 2021. Education Minister V Sivankutty is the current MLA.
Out of the 14 Assembly constituencies in the district, Nemom, Vattiyoorkavu and Kazhakkoottam have emerged as key battlegrounds. All three seats are currently held by the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist), but recent political developments suggest the contests could swing in any direction.
BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has already made his intentions clear about contesting from Nemom, though an official announcement is awaited. “Yes 100% I will contest for the upcoming assembly elections. You can write and take that I will contest. If you want, I can tell you the constituency also. I will contest in Nemom constituency.”
