‘Pelawatte Party Office Decides Who Goes to Prison’ – Namal Rajapaksa
04-May-2026.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa stated that it is the Pelawatte party office that decides which case should be taken up first and who should be sent to prison.
He further said that during the May Day rally, the President and members of the ruling party did not speak about workers’ rights, but only spoke about sending opposition figures to prison. He stressed that they would never be intimidated by such threats and vowed to continue exposing corruption and fraud carried out by the Government.
Rajapaksa made these remarks while addressing the media after participating in a special religious ceremony held at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara on May 2.
He further stated:
The National People’s Power (NPP) came into power by giving false promises to the people. Now, as the public has understood that those promises were false, the Government has unleashed oppression. This, he said, is their political policy.
He added that the Government is unwilling to accept criticism when lies are exposed, and that legal cases cannot be used to intimidate them. He reiterated that the Pelawatte party office decides which case is taken up first and who should be imprisoned.
He also referred to the suspicious death of Dan Prasad, who had lodged a complaint with the CID regarding the release of 323 containers, stating that he was murdered under mysterious circumstances. Rajapaksa further mentioned that the former Assistant Director of the Treasury, linked to the USD 2.5 million fraud, has also died, calling the incident highly suspicious.
