Volkswagen is accelerating a three-year restructuring of its India operations, aiming to cut about 12% of its workforce by 2027 to reduce costs before launching new vehicles, including electric models.

This plan is separate from the global restructuring led by CEO Oliver Blume. Despite job cuts, Volkswagen plans to expand engineering and investment in India, a key manufacturing and export hub.

The company is also considering selling a controlling stake to JSW Group to inject fresh capital amid challenges building scale in India.
