Canada's largest helium purification facility opens in southwest Saskatchewan

North American Helium has opened Canada's largest helium purification facility in southwest Saskatchewan.
The new facility near Stewart Valley is set to produce approximately 73 million cubic feet of helium each year, the company says.
That will increase Saskatchewan's annual helium output by more than 40 per cent, according to a release from the provincial Ministry of Energy and Resources.
"When we talk about Saskatchewan's resource sector, we often talk about oil, potash, uranium. Helium is another example of what the province has to offer, and today is another step toward a stronger and more diversified resource economy," Minister of Energy and Resources Chris Beaudry said.
The province's goal is to grow Saskatchewan's helium production to 10 per cent of the global helium supply by 2030, Beaudry said.
Helium is used for industrial processes in the medical, defence, space exploration and advanced manufacturing sectors.
