1 dead, 19 displaced after fire in Hintonburg

A person rescued from a burning residential building on Armstrong Street on the evening of Jan 18 later died in hospital, according to Ottawa Fire Services (OFS).

Firefighters were called to the three-storey building at the east end of the residential street in Ottawa's Hintoburg neighbourhood around 6 p.m.

Firefighters arrived within two minutes and extinguished the flames, which were confined to a first-floor bedroom. The fire was declared under control at 6: 26 p.m.

A tenant was found unconscious in the bathroom and was brought outside where they were given emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived.

"One firefighter accompanied paramedics to hospital to assist with continued resuscitation efforts," but the person succumbed to their injuries, Ottawa Fire Services said.
