Poland downs Russian drones in its airspace

Poland shot down drones that violated its airspace during a Russian drone attack on neighbouring Ukraine -- marking the first known instance of a NATO member firing shots in Moscow’s war on Kyiv. Nato fighter jets were deployed overnight after multiple drones violated Polish airspace on September 10.
The European officials confirmed it was the first time Nato aircraft were mobilised in direct response to a potential Russian threat inside its territory. "Russia’s war is escalating, not ending," said European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.
Russia maintained that its overnight attacks were aimed at Ukrainian military-industrial sites in western Ukraine, near the Polish border, and claimed it had "no planned targets" on Polish soil. In a rare overture, Moscow said it was prepared to hold consultations with Poland’s Defence Ministry about the incident.
