While introducing the new resolution on Sri Lanka, the UK representative to the UN Human Rights Council paid tribute to Dr. Kasippillai Manoharan, who recently passed away after years of campaigning for justice following the killing of his son Ragihar and four other students in Trincomalee in 2006.

The representative said Dr. Manoharan’s death serves as a reminder that many family members in Sri Lanka continue to die without justice or knowing the fate of their missing loved ones.

He stressed that the demands of survivors, families, and communities for truth and justice must be urgently addressed. The new resolution acknowledges the Sri Lankan government’s commitments toward reconciliation and urges it to implement them fully.

The representative also said that the ongoing excavations of mass graves could finally bring answers to families who have waited for years, and investigations must be carried out respectfully and effectively.
