The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court on 9 September 2026 ordered that Sugiswara Bandara, who served as the private secretary to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, be further remanded until 23 September.

He was arrested over allegations that, during the period when he served as the former President’s private secretary, he received salaries for two positions under the subject of presidential expenditure.

The suspect, who had been arrested by the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau and placed in remand custody, was produced before Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara.

Investigating officers had submitted a progress report on the investigations to the court.

After considering financial evidence and investigation reports relating to the allegation that the suspect had received a salary and allowances for another position under the subject of presidential expenditure while serving as the former President’s private secretary, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect’s remand period be extended.
