Father Sentenced to 54 Years of Rigorous Imprisonment for Sexually Abusing Daughter

The Gampaha High Court has sentenced a father to 54 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually abusing his daughter, who was below 16 years of age.

The investigation was conducted by the Police Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women following allegations that the father had sexually abused his minor daughter. The suspect was subsequently arrested and prosecuted before the Gampaha High Court.

The court delivered its verdict on October 30, 2026. High Court Judge found the accused, who was the victim's father, guilty of all three charges brought against him.

Accordingly, the court imposed a separate sentence of 18 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 for each charge.

The total sentence amounts to 54 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 150,000. The court further ordered that, in default of payment of the fines, the accused should serve an additional one-year prison term for each charge, amounting to a further three years.

In addition, the court ordered the accused to pay Rs. 200,000 as compensation to the victim. It further ruled that he would have to serve an additional two-year prison sentence in default of payment of the compensation.
