The Muhammad Yunus-led government in Bangladesh on Friday condemned the beating and killing of a Hindu man accused of blasphemy amid the latest wave of violent protests following the death of a student leader.
The interim government asserted that there is ‘no place for such violence in a New Bangladesh’ and vowed that no one involved in the crime would be spared.
The victim, Dipu Chandra Das, was a young garment factory worker living as a tenant in the Dubalia Para area of Bhaluka Upazila.
According to police, a group of local residents accused him of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad and attacked him around 9 pm on Thursday.
"We deeply condemn the incident of beating and killing a Hindu man in Mymensingh. There is no place for this kind of violence in New Bangladesh. No one involved in this brutal crime will be exempted," Dhaka said in a statement.
