Water Level of Victoria Reservoir Being Reduced for Power Generation: Frontline Socialist Party

Frontline Socialist Party propaganda secretary Duminda Nagamuwa stated that the government has decided to reduce the water level of the Victoria Reservoir to a dangerously low level in order to temporarily manage the electricity crisis.

He alleged that this decision was taken to cover up power shortages caused by corruption and mismanagement in coal procurement.

He warned that reducing water levels could severely affect irrigation for agriculture, drinking water supply, and future food security.

He further stated that water distribution systems in surrounding areas had already been affected and that shortages had emerged in several communities.

He urged the government to immediately halt excessive water release and prioritise essential needs such as drinking water and agriculture, warning that continued mismanagement could lead to higher food prices and an economic crisis.
