US Ambassador discusses relief efforts and trade cooperation with Chief Trade Representative

U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung stated that she held detailed discussions with U.S. Principal Trade Representative Kari Arun regarding the significant role played by U.S. companies in post-Cyclone Dithwa relief and recovery efforts.

Following the floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Dithwa, hundreds have died and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods. Various international actors continue to assist Sri Lanka during this period.

As the United States continues to provide assistance, Principal Trade Representative Kari Arun arrived in Sri Lanka on Dec 15 for his first official visit.

In a post on her official X account, Ambassador Julie Chung stated that discussions were held on the role and contributions of U.S. companies in post-cyclone relief and recovery efforts, as well as on expanding trade relations and bilateral cooperation between the United States and Sri Lanka.
