A delegation led by Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, leader of the Tamil National People’s Front and Member of Parliament, has arrived in Chennai to hold discussions with Tamil Nadu political leaders. The purpose of the visit is to urge pressure for the establishment of a federal constitution that recognizes Tamil nationhood, sovereignty, and the right to self-determination as a political solution for Tamils.

The delegation includes Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, leader of the Tamil National People’s Front and Tamil National Council; P. Iyngaranesan, leader of the Tamil National Green Movement; S. Gajendran, Secretary of the Tamil National People’s Front; National Organizer T. Suresh; K. Sukash; and official spokesperson N. Kandipan.

According to a statement by the Tamil National People’s Front, the Sri Lankan government is actively attempting to impose a “unitary state” constitution as a permanent political solution for Tamils. In this context, the international community must apply pressure to prevent this and to establish a federal constitution recognizing Tamil nationhood, sovereignty, and self-determination.

As a regional power, India must exert strong pressure on Sri Lanka in this regard. There is an urgent need for political leaders in Tamil Nadu to collectively raise their voices to create such a situation.

For this purpose, the Tamil National People’s Front stated that they will undertake an official visit to Chennai this week to meet Tamil Nadu political leaders and explain these matters in detail.
