Sugiswara Bandara Remanded Until October 7

A Magistrate has rejected the bail application filed on behalf of Sugiswara Bandara, former Director of the Presidential Special Projects Division and former Private Secretary to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and ordered that he be further remanded until 7 October.

The order was issued after the suspect was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara on 23 September 2026.

Sugiswara Bandara, who served as Secretary to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa until his retirement in 2022, is also alleged to have served as Director of Projects at the Presidential Secretariat during the tenure of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and to have received two salaries under the subject of presidential expenditure.

The Central Criminal Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations into allegations that Bandara misused government vehicles and involved employees attached to the relevant offices in political activities during the period in which he held these positions.

Accordingly, he has been accused of misappropriating Rs. 1,933,065 during his tenure as Presidential Secretary and Rs. 4,226,884.59 during his tenure as Director-General of Projects.

During an earlier hearing in the case, the Magistrate had rejected the bail application filed on behalf of Sugiswara Bandara and ordered that he be remanded until 7 October.
