Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia Focus on Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia have expressed interest in further strengthening bilateral political and economic cooperation.

Foreign Minister Wijitha Herath, who is visiting Riyadh to attend the 26th UNWTO General Assembly, held discussions with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, during which the matter was emphasised.

Minister Herath briefed his Saudi counterpart on Sri Lanka’s favourable investment environment and invited the Saudi private sector to explore emerging opportunities across multiple sectors in Sri Lanka.

He further noted that the first Trade Council between the chambers of commerce of the two countries would be established during his visit, creating a platform to enhance private sector engagement and trade relations.

Both ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to elevating the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia to new heights. Minister Herath commended Saudi Arabia’s leadership in promoting peace in the Middle East, and reiterated Sri Lanka’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

During the meeting, to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan officially presented Minister Herath with commemorative stamps issued by the Saudi Postal Service.
