Special Sri Lankan team flies to Maldives

A special team from Sri Lanka’s security services has flown to the Maldives to investigate a fishing vessel and its crew, who were detained by Maldivian authorities for drug trafficking.

The team includes officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Navy.

Based on intelligence shared by Sri Lankan security agencies regarding a drug-trafficking network operating through Sri Lanka, Maldivian authorities intercepted a fishing vessel and detained six fishermen.

The vessel is now being brought to the Maldives, and a Sri Lankan delegation has travelled there to question the seized narcotics and the arrested fishermen, police said.
