A special security plan will be launched from April 1 in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadeera, has announced.

He stated that as public movement increases significantly during the festive period, a large number of traffic police officers and security personnel will be deployed on duty.

Special traffic control measures and security arrangements will be implemented particularly focusing on railway stations and main bus terminals in Colombo and other major cities.

The DIG further said that the special plan will come into effect from April 1 and will continue until the New Year celebrations conclude and the public returns from villages back to cities.

He added that, as in previous years, special traffic and security operations will be carried out around railway stations and main bus terminals in Colombo, as well as in other major cities.

The Inspector General of Police has also issued special instructions regarding the safety of people travelling to villages and those coming into cities to purchase goods for the New Year.

Accordingly, security and traffic arrangements will be carried out in a planned manner under the supervision of officers responsible for each respective region.

Although police personnel are already deployed, the DIG stated that the special plan will be implemented from April 1 until the New Year period ends and the public returns to their hometowns.
