A cordial meeting between newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Heaxiang and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was held on September 9 at Mahinda Rajapaksa’s residence in Colombo.

Several senior figures, including Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary and Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, also participated in the meeting.

Following the presentation of his credentials on 25 August, the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador, who has taken up his duties as China’s representative in Sri Lanka, received the former President’s heartfelt congratulations.

During the meeting, the Ambassador presented the former President with a book containing traditional Chinese paintings. The book provides an opportunity to gain a closer understanding of the deep meaning and richness of Chinese civilisation.

Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his appreciation to the Chinese Government, recalling the long-standing relationship between the two countries and the path they have travelled together through friendship and strategic partnership. He also noted that China had warmly embraced Sri Lanka’s culture and its people.
