Special Measures for MPs’ Security –IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya says

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya stated that appropriate measures have been taken to ensure the security of Members of Parliament (MPs) and special steps are also being implemented to safeguard the public and people’s representatives.
He appeared before Parliament on October 31 following a request by opposition members to question him regarding MPs’ security.
The session was attended by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and several opposition MPs.
The discussions focused on national security, public safety, and the protection of MPs.
The IGP explained the current security measures and emphasized that all necessary actions will be taken to ensure MPs’ safety.
After the session, MP Jagath Vitharana of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) told the media that they had questioned the IGP about the removal of MPs’ security. The IGP reportedly expressed concern over the matter and assured that all MPs requesting security will be provided with protection.
