23-Aug-2025.

The number of petitions filed before the Supreme Court challenging the proposed Revocation of Former Presidents’ Privileges Bill has risen to six.
Earlier this week, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne informed Parliament that three petitions had been lodged under Article 121(1) of the Constitution. On August 21, during the morning session of Parliament, the Speaker announced receipt of three additional petitions submitted to the Supreme Court.
The bill seeks to strip former presidents of certain entitlements and privileges, sparking legal and political debate.
