The death sentence handed down to Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by a special tribunal for crimes against humanity during the July 2024 student uprising.

The interim government, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, issued a statement on the verdict against Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who was also sentenced to death.

The government has said that the death sentence announced against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Sadhu Zama Khan Kamal for crimes against humanity is a 'historic verdict'.

The Yunus government also says that 'realising the profound significance of this verdict, the government is calling on the people of all walks of life to remain calm, restrained, and responsible'.
