School holidays extended until December 16
30-Nov-2025.
Taking into account the prevailing unstable weather conditions in the country, all upcoming national examinations scheduled for next week, including the General Information Technology exam, have been postponed indefinitely, according to the Commissioner General of Examinations.
A revised examination timetable will be released in due course. Meanwhile, due to the continuing severe weather, the reopening of schools has been postponed until December 16, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education announced.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds are being reported across the country. Multiple districts have been affected by flooding and landslides. The Commissioner of Examinations stated that this decision was made considering the difficulties students face in reaching exam centers under such conditions.
In the evening of November 29, a special discussion was held at the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Education Minister and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
The decision was taken after reviewing the country’s current situation. The ministry further said that examinations and school reopening dates will be announced only after the weather stabilizes completely.
