The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) announced the expulsion of Sampath Manamperi from party membership following his arrest on narcotics-related charges, emphasizing that the party will not adopt a lenient policy on such matters.
Manamperi, a former SLPP local government member, was arrested in connection with the discovery of approximately 50,000 kilograms of chemicals used in the production of methamphetamine (“ice”), which had been buried in a house in Mithtaniya, Thalawa.
The SLPP issued a statement declaring that his party membership has been immediately revoked.
“Our member, Sampath Manamperi of Angunukolapelessa, Thalawa, has been accused of possessing raw materials used in narcotics production. The party does not tolerate such allegations, and accordingly, his membership has been suspended with immediate effect.
The allegations against him are extremely serious. We believe that the ongoing investigations will soon reveal the truth to the public,” the statement added.
