Sacred corporeal relics of the Buddha, excavated from Devni Mori in Gujarat, India, arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport on 4 February.

The relics will be displayed for public veneration at the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya from 5 April to 11 April, 24 hours daily. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake paid floral tribute upon their arrival.

The relics were sent following a request made by the President during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025. Indian Acting High Commissioner Sathyanjal Pandey stated this was the first time the relics had been taken outside Gujarat.
